From the misty forests of Bwindi to the savanna of Queen Elizabeth, Uganda’s lodges capture the country’s astonishing variety. Here you can set out to track gorillas, follow chimpanzees through a sunken gorge, or drift along the Nile as hippos snort nearby. Each lodge offers comfort and character, paired with rare wildlife encounters.
Buhoma Lodge
Set at the very edge of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Buhoma Lodge is one of only two properties located inside the park, making it the perfect base for gorilla trekking. Ten eco-friendly wooden chalets, each with private verandas, blend seamlessly into the forest, offering uninterrupted views. Guests enjoy a cosy main lounge with a fireplace, hearty meals, and the chance to spot resident primates right from the lodge grounds. Tranquil and homely, Buhoma is just steps from the trek start point, making it as practical as it is atmospheric.
Kyambura Gorge Lodge
Once a coffee store, Kyambura Gorge Lodge has been transformed into a strikingly stylish retreat overlooking the savanna, the Rwenzori Mountains, and the forested gorge below. Afro-chic bandas feature handcrafted details and sweeping views, while a spa and swimming pool add to the sense of indulgence. Guests venture into the gorge to track chimpanzees, cruise the Kazinga Channel to see hippos and elephants, and join community conservation projects. With only eight bandas, the lodge feels intimate, yet it offers access to one of Uganda’s richest ecosystems.
Baker Lodge
Tucked under shady trees along the Nile River, Baker’s Lodge recalls the romance of early exploration with its thatched cottages and open-air central lounge. Ten spacious suites, built on raised wooden decks, enjoy private riverfront views where hippos wallow and sunsets light up the water. Guests can cool off in the pool, take a boat upriver to the base of Murchison Falls, or head out on game drives across the park’s savanna. With its tranquil setting and attentive service, Baker’s Lodge is as relaxing as it is adventurous.
Kibale Lodge
Overlooking the crater lakes near Kibale Forest, this newly built lodge showcases elegant bandas crafted by Ugandan artisans. With a pool, spa, and sauna, it offers a level of comfort rare in this remote region. Days are spent tracking chimpanzees in the nearby forest, birding, or engaging with local conservation projects run by the Volcanoes Safaris Partnership Trust. Only eight bandas ensure a sense of privacy, while verandas open to wide views across the lakes and forests.
Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort & Spa
On the northern shores of Lake Victoria, this resort blends Mediterranean-inspired architecture with Ugandan warmth. Set around a marina and 18-hole golf course, it offers spacious rooms, landscaped gardens, a spa, and sweeping views across Africa’s largest lake. A refined base for relaxation, water activities, or beginning a Ugandan journey.
