Byron’s journey with WildEarth began in November 2021, but his connection to nature started long before that. A qualified conservationist, field guide and birding specialist, he was living in Betty’s Bay when WildEarth needed a local naturalist to host at Penguin Beach. With his feet already planted firmly in the world of human–wildlife conflict, the timing was perfect. What began as a hosting role soon evolved into managing field operations in the Lowveld, a landscape he had always dreamed of exploring.

With roots in the Cape Floral Kingdom and guiding experience from Grootbos to the bushveld, Byron brings a deep appreciation for nature in all its forms. His calm, thoughtful style is built on years spent guiding guests through wild spaces, always seeking out the joy and stillness that time in nature brings.

Today, Byron plays a pivotal role at WildEarth Travel. He is the main point of contact for guests, managing all travel logistics and building meaningful connections with those who join our journeys. From Bon Voyage calls to safari follow-ups, he ensures that each trip runs smoothly from start to finish.

Byron thrives on hearing the stories and seeing the photos from guests once they return. When he has the chance to host a trip himself, it is always a highlight. Whether recalling a late-night hyena encounter or a close-up moment with the Nkuhumas, he brings those stories to life with quiet enthusiasm.

A passionate birder, Byron is known to “brake for birds” and often ends his day in the ocean or on the mountain, connecting with the fynbos, surfing, or running along the beach with his wife and daughter.
