Affectionately known as the “Land of Giants,” Mashatu epitomizes the quintessential African wilderness. Encompassing 90,000 acres of pristine landscape, Mashatu is rich in history and teeming with diverse wildlife. Situated on the eastern tip of Botswana, where it borders South Africa and Zimbabwe, this sanctuary features a mosaic of habitats with around 1,000 elephants calling it home. Leopards stealthily traverse the Majali dry river, offering some of the best leopard sightings in Africa, often lounging in the iconic Mashatu (Nyala berry) trees.

The reserve also hosts lions, cheetahs, hyenas, and an array of species including eland, wildebeest, zebra, impala, and bushbuck. Bird enthusiasts will be thrilled by the over 360 recorded species, ensuring a high photographic success rate.

A highlight for photographers is the sunken photographic hide, strategically positioned to utilize perfect lighting and low perspectives for stunning backgrounds. This hide has yielded numerous award-winning images, offering an unparalleled vantage point as wildlife approaches the waterhole.
