The Legacy Tour 2026: Four days of safari magic

Cedric Dold reflects on the highlights of guiding guests through The Legacy Tour.

by Cedric Dold - Guide, leopard specialist

Guiding guests on The Legacy Tour is always a privilege, and this particular four-day safari is one I won't forget in a hurry. From giraffe and leopard sightings to a boma dinner under the stars, I take you back through the highlights of hosting guests on an adventure filled with unforgettable wildlife encounters — and a few surprises along the way.

Day 1 – Off to a Flying Start

Our first afternoon at the lodge was filled with excitement, anticipation and plenty of good vibes. The first drive got us off to a fantastic start, with beautiful giraffe sightings — a favourite among many of our guests — before we came across the ever-popular leopard Kuchava and the hyena known as June. It was the perfect way to begin our safari adventure.

Day 2 – A Morning Full of Leopards

The sunrise safari on Day 2 started with a bang! We came across the Nottens male leopard, busy sniffing around and giving us a wonderful opportunity to spend some time in his company.

From there, we enjoyed a beautiful sighting of a magnificent male white rhino before rounding off the morning with another special encounter — this time with Rhulani. A fantastic morning from start to finish.

Day 3 – Mzemba and a Magical Evening

Day 3 brought excellent general game and, for the birding enthusiasts among us, some great sightings too. The afternoon drive delivered something special when we found Mzemba, an impressive leopard, and were able to spend quality time simply watching him go about his afternoon in the relaxed evening light.

As the sun disappeared, the day ended on an equally memorable note with a beautiful boma dinner. Good food, good company and the sounds of the African bush made for a truly special evening.

Day 4 – A Leopard Finale

Our final morning started with a bang when Tortoise Pan gave us an incredible walk-by, with the guests amazed by the sheer size of this magnificent male leopard as he passed close to the vehicle.

The elephants also put on an amazing show, delivering fantastic sightings throughout the morning.

But the real drama was still to come.

While out birding, Tod spotted two leopards walking across the dam wall, and our afternoon drive suddenly had a new mission: find them. After some searching, we tracked them down and discovered that it was Nottens and Kuchava — and they were mating.

What a sighting to end the safari on! Seeing these two leopards together in such a special moment was certainly one of the highlights of the entire trip.

Until Next Time…

What four days it was! From giraffe and elephants to rhinos, incredible birding, unforgettable leopard sightings and even a mating pair of leopards, this safari had a little bit of everything.

Most importantly, it was four days filled with fun, laughter, incredible wildlife and memories that will last a lifetime.

The African bush certainly knows how to put on a show — and this time, she delivered.
