Okavango Wild Ride

1 – 9 June 2027 8 nights Max 6
Guided by Kerri DuPreez

Join WildEarth presenter and guide Kerri DuPreez on an eight-night horse riding safari through the Okavango Delta.

With Kerri as your private guide, join a small group of just six guests for an unforgettable horseback adventure through two of Botswana’s most spectacular wilderness areas — the Okavango Delta and the Makgadikgadi Pans.

Spend five nights at intimate Cha Cha Metsi Camp, riding through the waterways, floodplains and palm-fringed islands of the Okavango, where wildlife encounters unfold from the saddle. Follow elephant trails, splash through the shallows alongside red lechwe and keep watch for buffalo, giraffe and an abundance of birdlife, with time to explore by mokoro or on foot between rides.

Then head into the vast landscapes of the Kalahari for three nights at Camp Kalahari. Ride across open grasslands, ancient salt pans and palm-covered islands in search of zebra, wildebeest and desert-adapted wildlife. Meet habituated meerkats on foot, spend time with the Zu/’hoasi Bushmen and experience the extraordinary stillness of the Makgadikgadi beneath endless African skies.

With exceptional horses, expert guides, spectacular landscapes and wildlife at every turn, this is Botswana experienced at its most immersive — from the saddle, at the pace of the wilderness.

Special Note On Riding Requirements: This safari is suited to intermediate to experienced riders. Days in the saddle can be long — typically 4–7 hours per day — and riders should be comfortable keeping up with the group and riding confidently at all paces, including rising trot and canter. Riders must be over 12 years old and physically fit enough for extended days of riding. There is a 95 kg weight limit, including full riding gear. Experienced riders over this limit may be accepted at the discretion of the safari operator and may be required to use a second horse to alternate between during the safari.

Where You’ll Stay

Cha Cha Metsi

Photo 1

Set in the heart of Botswana’s Okavango Delta, Cha Cha Metsi is an intimate safari camp surrounded by wild waterways, floodplains and abundant wildlife.

With just a handful of beautifully appointed tents, it offers a peaceful, private base from which to experience the Delta.

Days here are shaped by the water and the wildlife, with game drives, walking safaris and seasonal mokoro excursions offering different ways to explore this remarkable ecosystem. From elephants and hippos to big cats and an extraordinary variety of birdlife, there’s always something happening beyond camp.

Back at Cha Cha Metsi, slow down between adventures with time to relax, take in the views and soak up the sounds of the bush. It’s an authentic Delta experience where the wilderness takes centre stage.

Camp Kalahari

Makgadikgadi Pans · Botswana

Photo 1

Set in a one-million-acre private wildlife reserve, Camp Kalahari is one of just three camps in this vast wilderness.

Twelve Meru-style tents sit beneath palm trees, creating a relaxed, adventurous base for exploring the Kalahari.

There’s plenty to keep you busy, from traditional game drives and horseback safaris to quad biking and Bushman walks. And with children of all ages welcome, a dedicated family suite and a fenced camp, it’s a fantastic choice for a family safari.

Between adventures, cool off in the swimming pool or settle into a lazy siesta at the pool pavilion. In the dry season, head to the waterhole to watch elephants come in to drink.

From January to April, the landscape comes alive as around 50,000 zebra and wildebeest pass through the area during their annual migration.
