Home of the walking safari, where wild rivers carve through remote reserves and Victoria Falls roars at the root.

Zambia is a safari for the wilderness. South Luangwa National Park, the birthplace of the walking safari, delivers immersive encounters, tracking elephants along river loops by day and then enjoying some of the best leopard viewing in Africa.  To the west, Kafue National Park sprawls across diverse habitats: open Busanga floodplains with their herds of red lechwe, roan antelope, puddle-jumping lions, and miombo woodlands that feel truly untamed. Lower Zambezi National Park offers a different pace, canoeing past basking crocodiles, enjoying herds of elephant feeding in the ghostly ana-tree forests, and fishing for tigerfish under the watch of fish eagles.

Seasonal spectacles add another dimension: Kasanka, in late October and November, hosts millions of straw-coloured fruit bats – the world’s biggest mammal migration, while Bangweulu Wetlands provide the thrill of spotting shoebills amid papyrus channels and watching black lechwe on open plains.

Beyond the parks, Zambia’s people are part of the draw – community conservancies and village visits give insight into life alongside these wild spaces. Whether on foot, by canoe, or from a hide overlooking a waterhole, Zambia rewards curiosity with experiences that feel personal, wild and deeply connected to the landscapes you move through.
